Your Westminster Abbey online ticket and Galleries ticket

Online tickets are valid only for the date and time specified. Each ticket contains a unique barcode. Once scanned the online ticket has been redeemed and cannot be reused. Please note that all tickets are single entry only as capacity is strictly controlled.

It is the responsibility of the ticket holder to ensure they arrive at the Abbey at the time stated on their ticket. Westminster Abbey does not guarantee entry with online tickets when not redeemed at the date and time shown on the ticket.

Online tickets cannot be resold, exchanged or refunded. Also, online tickets cannot be used in conjunction with any type of discount ticket or offer.

In the event that this ticket cannot be redeemed due to an unadvertised or short-notice closure, Westminster Abbey reserves the right to extend the validity of the ticket for up to 6 months. If it is not possible to use the ticket within that time then a full refund will be authorised following an email request to tickets@westminster-abbey.org

Online tickets that have been amended, copied or defaced in any way will not be accepted.

Entry to the Abbey

On arrival at Westminster Abbey you just be able to display the barcode of your ticket clearly, preferably via a mobile device, or otherwise via a printed copy.

Entry is via the North Door entry point only. Please display your ticket to our staff who will then scan it. Visitors who have purchased a guidebook will be able to collect these at entry upon production of a valid ticket.

Security searches operate at entry points. Westminster Abbey retains the right to refuse entry on the grounds of health, safety and security at any time.

All ticket holders must comply with all relevant statutes in law, safety announcements and regulations whilst attending Westminster Abbey. We shall have the right to refuse admission or to eject you and any other ticket holder from Westminster Abbey if, in our reasonable opinion, admission might be a risk to the safety of others and/or affect the enjoyment of Westminster Abbey by others.

Visitors to the Abbey are reminded of the following conditions of entry:

• Smoking is not permitted throughout the Abbey.
• Pets or animals are not allowed except for guide, assistance and/or hearing dogs.
• The consumption of food or drink, including chewing gum, is not permitted in the Abbey, except in designated refreshment areas.
• Offensive weapons are not permitted and those found to be carrying them will be refused entry.
• Any attempt to access any area of Westminster Abbey not designated for visitors is strictly prohibited.
• Unnecessary noise (whether from a mobile phone or personal stereos or otherwise) or behaviour likely to annoy or offend other visitors or intimidate Westminster Abbey staff, volunteers or visitors is not permitted.
• The use of illegal drugs and/or consumption of alcohol is not permitted.
• Children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 years or over.

Communications

By purchasing tickets from Westminster Abbey you understand that you will receive one purchase confirmation email from SagePay and one from Westminster Abbey with an attachment containing your tickets. You will also receive the following communication from Westminster Abbey:

• one pre visit containing information about your visit including things you can do and see whilst visiting.
• one post visit giving you the opportunity to stay in touch.

Cancellations

Tickets are non-changeable and non-refundable once purchased. We are under no obligation to issue refunds where an online ticket has been cancelled by you, however, if your plans are impacted by illness, we are happy to reschedule your visit within 12 months of your original booking.

In rare circumstances beyond our control, we reserve the right to cancel an online ticket but we will endeavour to notify you as soon as we become aware that this is necessary. Should we have to cancel your online ticket we will offer to extend the validity to allow a visit on another date or refund the purchase in full to the credit/debit card used at the time of purchase.

Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey is one of Britain's most iconic, well-known and important buildings and is one of the greatest repositories of English history.

What is less well known is that Westminster Abbey receives no regular funding from the Crown, the Church of England or the government.

Neither a cathedral nor a parish church, Westminster Abbey was established as a 'Royal Peculiar' in 1560 by Queen Elizabeth I. The Abbey is outside the jurisdiction and responsibility of the Church of England and the Government. In short, this means we must seek our own financial support.

As such the entry fee that is charged for visiting supports the Abbey and the upkeep of our extensive World Heritage site. There is no charge for attending services and all are welcome.

Daily worship

Westminster Abbey is a living Church, part of the Church of England: where Almighty God is worshipped daily, continuing a 1400 year tradition in this place. Every day (except Good Friday and Holy Saturday) the Eucharist is celebrated at 8.00 a.m. There are twenty-eight services every week, which all are welcome to attend, whether you are Anglican (Episcopalian), or of another Christian Church or of another faith, or seeking or doubting. The Abbey's world-famous choir often sings at one or more of our daily services.

Historic church

Westminster Abbey is one of the world's greatest churches, a designated World Heritage Site and 'Royal Peculiar', which means the Dean is directly answerable to the monarch. The coronation of Kings and Queens has taken place here since 1066, and many of the nation's Kings and Queens are buried in the Abbey. Principal among them is St Edward the Confessor, King of England from 1042 to 1066, whose shrine is at the heart of the Abbey. Also buried or memorialised here are over 3,000 great men and women from almost every century of these islands' history: statesmen and politicians, lawyers, warriors, clerics, writers, artists and musicians.

Abbey precincts

In the Abbey precincts you can visit St Margaret's Church (the Church of the House of Commons), the Great and Little Cloisters, the Chapter House and Museum, and College Garden, the oldest garden in England. The Abbey Library and Muniments Room offer research facilities by appointment. Also here are Westminster School, strongly associated with the Abbey, and Westminster Abbey Choir School, which educates the Abbey's choristers.
